Well, 2013 was quite a year.  I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get around to sitting down at my computer and writing up a little wrap-up post... I've been working on applying for a new job, and we've had visitors here at the Hunting House for the past two weeks, and we've got more slated to arrive on Monday!  So needless to say, blogging hasn't been the top priority.  Anyway.  2013.

This past year, I...

  •  Completed my year-of-outfits weight-loss challenge.  I didn't lose the weight that I wanted to, but I did manage to post three outfits a week for an entire year, which is pretty awesome for me.  Evidently, I need a tangible reward as incentive to get a thing done.
  • Trained myself to run a 5k.  I didn't really talk about it, but while I was staying at my parents' house over the summer, I downloaded the C25K app and went out running or walking every morning.  I couldn't even run a mile when I was younger, so I'm pretty proud of myself for seeing it through.
  • Painted a house.  Doug and I repainted my parents' entire house red.  And we did a few rooms, in other colors, of course. And got lots of practice doing home improvement.
  • Moved across the country and started graduate school.  After living in California for my entire life, packing everything up and moving across the country was rather daunting!  Doug and I put our newly-acquired home improvement skills to good use right away, ripping up 50-year-old carpet and redoing peeling paint.  We've settled in pretty well now, though, and I'm loving the weather in Massachusetts.  School didn't turn out so well this year, but hopefully a change of program will remedy that for the new year.
  • Sewed.  Lots.  I really expanded my sewing skills and my me-made wardrobe this year.  I sewed a very floofy summer-weight cotton dresses, a warm fuzzy housecoat, a mix-and-match travel wardrobe, and a few pairs of pants.  I have a few sewing projects to finish in the new year, and a whole drawer full of patterns vying for my attention.
  • Wore hats.  It may seem a bit silly, but hats were one of the vintage items I loved but didn't think I could pull off.  I decided that I'd make 2013 the year I figured out the whole hat thing, and I think I succeeded... my collection has gone from two hats to more than twenty, and I wear a hat nearly every time I set my hair.

This past year was a bit of a struggle for me on a personal level, since I don't cope well with big life transitions, but I think it went pretty dang well in quite a few respects.  Here's hoping that 2014 is brighter and better!
