School spirit events were one of my least favorite things for quite a few years of my young life.  It didn't help that for seven years, I went to schools where the colors were blue and gold.  Junior High, High School, and part of college (University of California system yay!) shared the same color scheme, and for most of my teenage years it was not a favorite.  So naturally, that's what came to mind when I was putting together this outfit for church!

I planned the outfit around the floral dress, a darling puff-sleeved late '30s number that I picked up for a song on instagram... that doesn't fit.  It seemed like the measurements would be right, but once I had it in hand I realized someone had done a bit of tailoring to it in the make-do-and-mend style and those alterations made the dress a terrible fit.  I wanted to do something with the dress before I send it along to a new home, though, so I decided to pair it with the jacket of a new suit to cover the ill-fitting bodice.  Brown seemed the natural choice for accessories to bring out the brown on the dress, so I decided to go with a new-to-me hat I got over the summer on another instagram sale run by Emileigh of Flashback Summer.

I think I've warmed up to the idea of blue and yellow over time!  Did you ever have to wear colors you weren't so fond of for school or sports, or did you luck out and have colors you liked?
