Does this count as progress?  I vote yes… and the new strategy is making me feel a lot better and more energized.  Of course, today, as I type this, I think I’m coming down with a cold, and I ate peanut butter cookies for breakfast, so… not every day is full of energy and exemplary eating.  Just most of them.
On Monday, Doug and I made a trek up to Colusa to pick up some vintage I was buying… no need to pay shipping when you can make a day trip out of it!  After securing my purchases, we headed over to the Colusa Wildlife Refuge to look at the migratory waterfowl.  My mom has been insisting on going bird watching for her birthday (in January!) for the last few years, but Doug has never gone.  I thought it might be fun to take a picnic lunch and have a look around.

The weather ended up being amazingly beautiful, and the fall colors were lovely.  We saw loads of snow geese, plenty of ducks, and a handful of other interesting birds, including this darling black phoebe.  There was a nice driving loop and a short nature trail, although the nature trail seemed a bit abridged by “this area is closed” signs.  All in all, it was a lovely fall excursion, and much pleasanter than our usual January trip!
