NOTD: Water Spotted Fail

Well, this nail art design did not go according to plan.  There’s a video tutorial by CutePolish here that shows you how to replicate the look of OPI’s Black Spotted, and I thought it looked easy enough, so I gave it a try.  Evidently, I wasn’t quite able to get my dots to turn out the right size…  I think the index finger is the closest.  I also neglected to tape off my nails, and the blue I used on top is a real Smurf-Fingers color!  Clean-up was not fun…

I used three coats of Butter London Victoriana (one of my favorite blue polishes ever) over a layer of Sinful Colors Basecoat.  Then I attempted to create a water spotted design using a spray bottle of Isopropyl Alcohol and Maybelline Navy Narcissist, a metallic royal blue with great color payoff.  I picked it up last week thinking it would be great for stamping, and it is!  Watch out for Smurf-y removal, though, it’s very pigmented!  And, of course, I finished off the design with NYC Grand Central Station quick-dry topcoat.

I think this water spotted manicure could be really neat looking with the right colors, slightly more careful prep, and a little more experimentation to get the spots the right size.  I may have to give it another try…
