Deep Sea Coral

One of my favorite clothing “cheats”, if you will, is the fold-a-dress-in-half-and-pretend-it’s-a-skirt.

It gives me some extra mix-and-match options, and it’s especially useful for dresses that are awesome but require a lot of planning or commitment to wear (halter tops, I’m looking at you) which would otherwise languish at the back of the closet.

I was absolutely thrilled to finally get my hands on a piece from the Trashy Diva Deep Sea Coral collection, which has been on my wish list since it was released, but the halter style of the dress means that I don’t reach for it as often as I might like.

The halter straps are really quite long, so I brought them back up at the waistline to make a bow, and added a stretch belt (although I think a thicker belt would have looked better) to cover the folded waistband. The fabric is very lightweight, which is amazing for summer but did mean that I could see some lumps through it from where I’d folded the bodice down. Fortunately, though, they weren’t terribly visible and I can’t really see them in the photos at all.

I wanted to keep the aquatic theme going with the accessories for this outfit as well — my Erstwilder seahorse and seashell shoes were perfect, but I didn’t have any flowers that matched my newest find, so a trip to the craft store was in order to make a proper hairpiece. I may have gone a bit over the top with my design… But I like it! I might have to make a smaller version too for days when I don’t feel like wearing half a pound of artificial foliage on my head.
