It’s election day! The polls have just closed in my state, but if you live further west and happen to be a registered voter who hasn’t gotten to the polls yet, I urge you to do so! For those of us who have already voted, it looks like it’s shaping up to be a long night of results-watching and nail biting as we wait to see who won.

I of course had to get all dressed up to vote if only on principle… I just got the red skirt in the mail in the last few weeks, so it was the perfect opportunity to wear it out!

Some of the ensemble was a bit make-do-and-mend, though, like the Erstwilder “Brahminy Bryan” brooch, because if you squint hard enough a brahminy kite almost looks like a bald eagle, right?

I also improvised a bit with my hat. It has a funny little hoop decoration in green velvet, but it was the best hat for the outfit so I grabbed a scrap of red wool and made it work!

In a way, this is a fitting outfit for election day not only because of the colors but also because of the individual elements. As I write this post, I realize that most of the things I’m wearing came from friends in the vintage community, small businesses, or a combination of the two! I know that the internet has proven very divisive this election season, and one of the things I really love about the vintage community is the amount of connection and positivity I’ve encountered being a part of it!

In that vein of “things from small businesses or members of the vintage community”, I wore my Royal Vintage Shoes Dolores pumps to the polls, and am happy to report that with the little adjustment I made to the straps they were quite comfortable for the walk and for the standing in line!

Happy voting!
